Where Does Motivation Come From?
Where does motivation come from? Seriously...I want to know! Because I am seriously lacking some right now. I was going to get up early and do a workout DVD, but I hit snooze and slept for another hour. I am still planning on running tonight. This is week two of my new running program so I will be running two minutes and walking one minute. I will do this a total of eight times. I am looking forward to that. I feel like my eating is what is currently off. I want to eat all of the time! Not only that, I want to eat junk all of the time. I thought it would get better now that school is over, but it has not yet. Argh! What is the deal? I even saw this awful picture of me on Facebook that was taken of me today. That should motivate me to eat better, but it hasn't yet. So frustrating! Tell me really...where does your motivation come from? Where can I find mine?

I think motivation is very personal and can change on any given day. Some of my motivations are 1. God (I need to take care of the earthly body he created for me to do His works) 2. My kids (keeping up with them now/being there for them later) 3. That super feeling I get when I do something that back in March would have killed me and 4. Reading your blog :) Really, you started this about the same time I was realizing that I had to make changes, so it has helped tremendously to read about your ups and downs.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the eating goes, I still struggle there too. Especially with savory foods and extra portions (I eat too fast, usually because I get too hungry, then eat too much). One area I have mostly conquered (though I still have relapses from time to time) is sweets. Maybe this can work for you too. I don't keep many sweets around that I like. Not enough willpower. However, I buy a high end dark chocolate bar that I can only eat 1-2 squares of no matter how much I'd like to eat more. When I'm feeling really stressed and just have to have chocolate I break off 1 square and find a quiet place to sit and really focus on enjoying it. That seems to satisfy me. Find your one thing that is so rich and good that it satisfies but you can't overindulge.
Also when you are feeling little motivation--go back and read some of your old posts about how good it feels to run. Like the time you ran the last 5 minutes or when you ran in the rain like a "real" runner. Summon up that feeling, put one foot in front of the other and see what happens. If you only walk a little at least you didn't stay on the couch, and I bet once you start moving you'll keep going!
Thank you so much for your words of wisdom, Michelle my Belle! They mean so much to me, and it is great advice!
